Testimonials/Feedback

 NorCal Diary
has some of our triumphs & tribulations gleaned from 34,000 mi (55,000 km) of research riding.

Media/Rider reviews of DHBC & DHWA

Our motto:
"Stop riding like a tourist and start riding like a local!"
What does our motto mean?

Thanks to your enthusiastic response (see below) and to our 36 participating CA dealers, linked above, where you can lay your hands on a copy of the book, we've  sold close to 2000 copies of DH NorCal

For those who haven't bought yet, consider that the faster we sell a shitload of DH NorCal, the sooner our muse will inspire us to come out with DH SoCal and other jurisdictions (yes, we feel your pain, Oregon). Also in this regard, please note that when you get DH NorCal and want to help proselytize our new testament, the last four pages of the book are meant to ripped out for other interested riders you know or meet on the road.

And hey, Californiansonce you've tasted what DH NorCal does for youconsider buying DHWA & DHBC. If you buy them, you will ride WA & BC for sure. If you don't, you might not.  Trust us, your life will be immeasurably improved by riding them with our books. And so will ours.

DH NorCal media buzz:

"DH Northern California immediately renders irrelevant whole tank bags full of road maps.  Its 570 spiral-bound pages contain all the exhaustive detail that long-time fans of the DH series have come to expect. The sheer volume of detail guarantees the time spent reading their books will not be wasted." –Kate Edwards, Friction Zone  read complete review

"I was shocked at the level of detail I found in your NorCal epic. Your stuff is astoundingly informative and entertaining––absolutely top-notch."
–Andy Cherney, Editor, Motorcycle Cruiser

"I hate reviews that describe a book  as a "must have" purchase. It's an abdication of the responsibility of the reviewer to provide cogent criticism.  Having said that, DH NorCal is a..... must have purchase. Actually, all three books are!" –American Road magazine

"Northern California has vinified the six (TIRES) truths of joyous motorcycling, bottled them and stuck in a cork. Think of the DHNCA book as your corkscrew, allowing you to savor the 334 roads in NorCal you must consume before you die." –Cycle Canada

"The best motorcycle road reference books ever published. I own all three books and love them." Neal Ulen, founder www.sport-touring.net

"IT ROCKS!  DH NorCal is their third book and these guys thought it through. Extremely useful knowledge and made the grade on the ride as well. It took a few maps to get all the abbreviations down, but not too long and once you got 'em... no problem. An amazing book and worth the scrilla ($$$). Over 550 pages of moto heaven!" Budman, founder BARF www.bayarearidersforum.com

"You could waste more money on gas than this book costs, looking for roads you won’t find without it. If a ride in California might be in your future, this book should be in your present." Steve Thornton, Upshift

"The only problem I have with DH NorCal is that in looking at the roads that I know, I see all the others, the ones waiting for me, calling, demanding that I pay them a visit. Travel guides can be pure torture at times. Especially good ones like this". –Max Burns, motojournalist

"Information is very detailed, with intimate descriptions of each road, detailed ratings and 125 full colour maps. If you've got a week or two in NorCal, than it'll be worth spending a few hours (days?) perusing and planning with this book first." www.cmgonline.com

"All you need to know to plan a route that best suits your approach to riding rather than wasting miles on roads you wished you had avoided. For that reason alone, the book is worth the asking price." –Terry Peters, Editor, North Shore News

"The Destination Highways books have always been a fun read in preparation for riding season and an invaluable resource on the road."
–Corrie Miller, HOT WHEELS Vancouver Province  read complete review

DH NorCal rider word of mouth:

"I want to congratulate you on having created the outstanding DHNCA! I bought the book just two days ago, and have only put it down to write this email to you, to eat, and to sleep (a bit). It's not often that I see ANY product as thoughtfully conceived and executed, and as I'm a very critical individual, this is not idle or casual praise. Indeed, if I thought there were anything I could add I would come begging for a job, since I'd love to work with such intelligent, well-read, well-versed, humorous, motorcycle-riding people (and that, my friends, seems to be a very small subset of the population). I suppose I will have to console myself by reading your book, and by traveling over many of these roads again, but with newly re-opened eyes. I've been riding in NorCal for 33 years and your book has reinforced my love of riding it--for which I thank you!"
Bob B

"Like Mad Maps, DH NorCal lays out routes. Like pashnit.com, DHNCA gives you detailed descriptions of your ride. What separates this book from either source is thoroughness.  A great book, love it!" –Ian C

"I have never seen such a comprehensive and detailed catalog of motorcycle roads and services of Northern California in print. It is written in a familiar, easy style with a sense of humor most riders will appreciate. Once you see one, you'll have to have it!" –Bob M

"Just got the book and really like it. And I've been riding in the Sierras for 40 years!" –Dale H

"I'm really impressed with the cartography, map layout, and accurate detail, especially in my local riding area where there is a lot of confusing twisty roads. The parts that I know read like a local wrote them." –Jeff D

"Bought DH NorCal last week and have been glued to it ever since!" Neil

"Let me compliment you on a magnificent, informative and entertaining motorcycle travel/touring resource. I have managed to read about 10% of NorCal and have found it spot on for the locations and roads with which I am familiar, and very informative and intriguing regarding areas I am yearning to explore." Cy Y

"The DH series of books has only one negative...it doesn't cover the entire world! Jim S

"With DH NorCal, I now have all three of your books and love them. They always go with me when I travel, and I can get "lost" in them for hours at a time during the winter months." David E

"Thanks for the book! It was really worth the wait (and I'm not just saying that-I MEAN it). It is already my favorite bedside reading book. I can't wait for the next volume in your series."
Laura T

"I already own DH Washington, so DH NorCal was a no-brainer!" Lee G

"Awesome video clips! The book is fantastic too and I like seeing the video along with the written At a Glance and mile-by-mile On The Road descriptions from the book because we just bought a Harley and have no clue where to ride. Thanks to you, we now have GREAT tools and information for NorCal road trips." Audrey M

"Just came back from some riding in California and want to mention how helpful the book was. I don't plan a ride without it." Norbert G

"You cannot beat DH NorCal for in depth info." Scooter

"Finally there is a California  tour guide book for motorcyclists. Very well detailed. A great book!" Don C

"Excellent, exactly what I expected!" T 1 Thunder

"I have all 3 of your books and find them invaluable in planning my routes." Keith H

"Compared to Destination Highways books, everything else is a giant stinking turd." Phil H

"I've hummed and hawed, and if any of you are in the same state, BUY THE BOOK!!  It IS worth it."
