Bigger is better. At least on this DH. Folks riding heavy, powerful 1300cc sport-tourers, 1800cc cruisers or six-cylinder luxo-tourers are going to drool over this ride. The expertly paved and engineered, moderately long-leaning sweepers featured on this secondary route are just the ticket for those who’ve got what it takes and know how to use it. Sweeping up out of Nevada City, the DH climbs along the south-facing slopes of Harmony and Washington Ridges. That’s followed by a long, gently climbing straight through an airy forest of tall, cabin-filled pines. Where the road and your throttle really start cracking is on the remote, stretched out descent to the eastern junction. There are some views at the west end over the Deer Creek Valley, a vista point by the TE-A turnoff and some distant mountain sightings coming down toward the interstate, but most of this ride is in the tall trees of the Tahoe National Forest. They don’t affect the sightlines, however. So you and your big baby are free to delight in the endless, roll-on sweepers that ess down the easy slope. Sure, bring your Rocket III
