Is this fast trip along the mountainous
Foresthill Divide any kind of warm-up for DH16? C’mon, get real.
On what planet can long, pour-it-on sweepers and top-tier
Pavement prepare anyone for a contorted twistfest like Mosquito
Ridge? It would sure make matters easier if you had to deal with
a few steep, blind curves or the occasional heart-stopping
cliff. Something to get you out of fifth gear. But noooooo.
Instead, every time you flick your eyes back to the road from
checking out the canyon view of the Middle Fork of the American
River or the remote acres of empty meadows and lush trees off
past the wide shoulders, this Engineering exhibitionist is
switching to three and four lanes. Which does have its
advantages for the massive new development that’ll make
Foresthill look more like a bedroom community than the
“community of rugged individualists and creative people” it
proclaims itself to be. But whatever the justification, the fact
remains: by the time you finish acing the essing supersweepers
and zipping effortlessly by the standstill pylons to turn down
the precarious DH16, you’re feeling too cool for words.
Hopefully not too cool for what’s to come.
